Monitoring the spread of the invasive Brown Marmorated Stink Bug in the Okanagan – BC Ministry of Agriculture

The brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) is a serious invasive pest that is expanding rapidly throughout the world. Native to eastern Asia, BMSB was first detected in Kelowna in 2016. In order to manage the BMSB outbreak, it is important to understand its phenology. In this internship, I (1) quantified the age structure and (2) assessed the reproductive development of BMSB in Kelowna over one year. My analysis suggests that BMSB in Kelowna produce only one new generation per year under current climatic conditions.
